You Don’t Have To Be Afraid Of Glitter
Two Products That Will Change Your Mind
Does your child absolutely LOVE using Glitter? Almost every young artist I’ve worked with has asked for glitter when finishing up an art project… and I get it… when you boil it down we are all magpies* and are attracted to shiny things. But I know how problematic glitter can be: It gets everywhere, is impossible to get rid of, and don’t get me started on if it goes in the mouth… But I’ve done the research, I’ve tried all the alternatives, and here are my two favorite loose glitter alternatives so your artistic child can get their glitter on.
A note about Traditional Loose Glitter: Traditional glitter is made of microplastics, which can pollute our waterways and harm marine and human life. The two products mentioned below are non-toxic, washable, and safe for all children to use.
Mod Podge Extreme Glitter and Mod Podge Mega Hologram Glitter
Mod Podge Extreme Glitter and Mod Podge Mega Hologram Glitter are water-based, washable sealers, glues, and finishes that come in a glittery form and are a fantastic alternative to conventional loose glitter.
The glitter particles in Mod Podge Extreme and Mega Glitter Glues are very fine and small, which creates a more subtle and sophisticated sparkle than traditional larger glitter particles. The glitter particles are evenly distributed throughout the glue, which means that the glitter coverage will be consistent across the surface you are applying it to.
These products are easy to apply and dry clear, leaving behind a sparkling, durable finish. Conventional glitter can be messy and difficult to work with, requiring glue or adhesive to stick to surfaces. These eliminate the need for additional adhesive and can be used on a variety of surfaces like wood, paper, fabric, and more.
The Mod Podge Extreme and Mega Hologram Glitters are water-resistant when dry, which means that it won’t come off or lose it’s sparkle when exposed to water or when used or touched daily. Conventional glitter can easily rub off and makes a mess when exposed to water, which is not the case with this product.
Pro-Tip: Before giving this product to your child, transfer it into an empty glue container with a traditional glue tip or into a smaller empty paint bottle. This eliminates the chance of the pot being tipped over and spilling out while your child is creating their masterpiece.
Deco Art Galaxy Glitter
Deco Art DecoArt Galaxy Glitter is a high-quality no-toxic, washable, glitter paint that has a more traditional “glitter” look than the Mod Podge Glitter Glues. Unlike the fine glitter particles found in the Mod Podge Products, the glitter found in the Art Deco Galaxy Glitter is larger, chunker, and more obvious.
DecoArt Galaxy Glitter paint comes in a convenient squeeze bottle with an attached lid, making it less messy and easier for children to use. With the Galaxy Glitter paint, children can enjoy creating sparkling art and parents need not worry about the impending mess.
The paint provides a smooth, even finish with no lumps or bumps, which can be difficult to achieve with conventional loose glitter. The paint dries to a sparkling finish that is more durable and longer-lasting than traditional glitter. This means that the art project will last longer and not lose its shine easily.
The Galaxy Glitter paint is available in a wide range of colors, making it a versatile product that can be used on a variety of surfaces. It can be used on wood, paper, canvas, and more, allowing children to get creative and make unique art projects.
Pro-Tip: Screw a traditional glue cap onto the bottles to limit the amount of glitter paint your child can squeeze out of the bottle at a time or to help your child paint more precise lines in glitter.
* It is widely accepted in European culture and folklore that magpies are unconditionally attracted to shiny objects and routinely steal small trinkets such as jewelry, almost as a compulsion.
